INEZ — Cardinal alumnus Drake Muncy will lead the Martin County Middle School football team as the new head coach.
MCMS announced Muncy’s hiring April 30.
Muncy is homegrown and was raised on Coldwater. He was a 3-sport athlete at Martin County High School and the starting quarterback for three years.
He is a member of the first graduating class of the newly built MCHS in 2020.
“I like to say that I’m the first-ever quarterback at Martin County High School,” Muncy jokes.
After graduating, the QB continued his academic career at Eastern Kentucky University, where he majored in occupational safety. He will graduate with his bachelor’s degree this month.
A fun fact about Drake: Last summer, he had a unique opportunity while working at the Bluegrass Army Depot. He was part of history when he participated in destroying the last chemical weapon in the United States.
“I am thankful for the opportunity and excited to be returning home to coach the youth in our community,” said Muncy, who coached youth football in MC before he attended college.
Muncy is set to marry his fiancée, Lindsy Marcum, in the fall. He plans on teaching in Martin County.
“I have been blessed with many coaches in my life who have helped mold me into the man I am today. I plan to do the same for our youth for years to come,” he said.
“I encourage all middle school students to sign up for football. This program will be something you will be proud to be a part of.”
