INEZ — Brayden McKenzie made a lifelong dream come true April 10. The Cardinal guard signed with Kentucky Christian University at the Martin County High School auditorium in front of families, friends and loved ones.

McKenzie has been a dominant presence on the court for Martin County over the past four years. His performances helped lead the Cards to a 15th Region championship and Sweet 16 appearance in 2023.

The Cardinals also locked down the 15th Region All “A” Classic Championship in 2023 and finished in the quarterfinal round of the All “A” State Tournament.

Over the past three years the Cardinals have dominated their district. They became the first school to win three 57th District titles in a row.

As a key player for the Cards, McKenzie’s junior and senior seasons saw him come into his own as a player.

He averaged over 15 points per game in both seasons. He also contributed significantly on the boards with an average of 6.5 rebounds his senior year.

Following his commitment to KCU, McKenzie expressed his gratitude.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity from Coach Pack,” McKenzie stated. “We already have a great relationship and I’m ready to see what we can accomplish this season.”

McKenzie’s journey to Kentucky Christian fulfills a dream he has harbored since childhood. His strong commitment to the game and perseverance through an injury molded him into the competitor he is today.

Coach Jason James echoed his excitement and pride in McKenzie’s achievements.

“I’m really happy and proud of Brayden,” Coach James shared. “He’s put in so much time and effort in the gym and weight room, and I’m glad it’s paid off. It’s been a blast being able to coach him for the last four years.”
