Free nursing academy for juniors, seniors

$1,500 scholarships

Deadline May 13

Twenty high school juniors and seniors from across the Appalachian Region will be invited to participate in the first-ever Appalachian Nursing Academy.

SOAR has partnered with the Kentucky Department for Public Health’s Office of Health Equity to host the ANA June 12-25 at the University of Pikeville.

ANA students will spend two weeks, at no cost, residing on the University of the Pikeville’s campus, receiving three meals a day, and immersing themselves in the surrounding town of Pikeville.

In addition to learning about nursing, students will engage in recreational activities throughout the program, including activities on-campus (such as teamwork and team-building exercises, presentations, shadowing and mentorship) and in the region (including hiking and visiting local attractions).

Students will receive a $1,500 scholarship to be put toward further post-secondary education.

Students must reside in one of Kentucky’s 54 Appalachian counties and be a rising high school junior or senior.

Applications are due Friday, May 13, at 11:59 p.m. Apply online at soar-ky.org/appalachian-nursing-academy.
