Mount Vernon man arrested for Rockcastle County murder

LIVINGSTON, Ky. — Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London arrested Clayton D. Cox, 49, of Mount Vernon, on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with a homicide investigation in Rockcastle County.

KSP Detective Ryan Loudermilk arrested Cox Monday evening, according to an updated press release issued at 10:30 p.m. Monday.

On April 28, officers responded to a welfare check around 5:25 p.m. at Goochland Cave Road after being notified by Rockcastle County 911. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of Joshua L. Dooley, 43, also from Mount Vernon, who had suffered apparent gunshot wounds.

Dooley was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Rockcastle County Coroner and has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The initial investigation quickly focused on locating Cox, who was identified as a person of interest and was believed to be armed and dangerous. Residents were advised not to approach Cox and to contact authorities with any information.

Cox is lodged in the Rockcastle County Detention Center.

Detective Loudermilk continues to investigate the case.
