NAUGTAUCK, W.Va. — Tug Valley’s Megan Griffey belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning which helped the Class A No. 10-ranked Lady Panthers to an 8-6 win over Shelby Valley (KY) on April 16 at the TVHS softball field in Naugatuck.
Laura Spaulding reached base on an error and scored on Griffey’s blast over the left-field fence.
It was the senior’s first career home run. Griffey was 3-for-3 and also had a pair of singles in the game.
Tug Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth frame to take the lead 6-8.
Shelby Valley had tied the game in the top of the seventh on a triple by Lindsay Reed and a single by Madison Boyd.
Bailee Hall had a pair of hits and stole two bases. Haleigh Muncy also had two hits for TVHS.
Hall picked up the pitching win for the Lady Panthers, while Riley Fleming took the loss for the Lady Wildcats.
Tug Valley improved to 10-4 on the season and broke a three-game skid.
Ravenswood 8, Tug Valley 7
RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. — The Ravenswood Devilettes nipped the Lady Panthers of Tug Valley on April 15 by a score of 8-7.
Tug Valley took a 5-2 lead in the top of the third inning. The Lady Panthers led 7-5 after five innings, but Ravenswood kept chipping away at the lead and scored two runs in the fifth frame and single runs in the sixth and seventh to get the home victory.
Bailee Hall and Jessica Spaulding both had two hits for Tug Valley. One of Hall’s hits was a double. Amelya Wellman, Tailyn Russell and Hailey Newsome also had base hits for Coach Rocky Hall’s squad. Russell had three RBIs and Spaulding two RBIs for the Lady Panthers.
Hall took the loss in the pitching circle. M. Casto got the win for the Devilettes. She and A. Casto belted home runs for the home team.
Tug Valley 16, Tolsia 0
GLEN HAYES, W.Va. — The Lady Panthers of Tug Valley made short work of rival Tolsia winning a 16-0 mercy rule contest April 17.
Bailee Hall pitched a no-hitter and only walked one batter. TVHS committed one error on the defensive side of the diamond. Hall struck out 5 Lady Rebels batters in the win.
Megan Griffey led the way with three hits for TVHS. Jessica Spaulding and M. Osborne both had two hits for the Lady Panthers. Osborne and Amelya Wellman both belted doubles. Spaulding had three RBIs for her team.
Hall scored three runs and had three RBIs to help her own cause. Every player in the Tug Valley starting lineup had at least one hit. The visitors pounded out 16 hits and drew five walks in the contest.
