William Arthur Marcum

1937—2024

William Arthur Marcum (also known as Bill Marcum), 86, of Breeden, West Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord in a place of eternal peace, rest and joy March 31, 2024.

He was born Sept. 23, 1937, to the late William and Sarah Ellen (Stafford) Marcum.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two daughters, Jessie Morgan of Louisa, Kentucky, and Laura Howe of Springfield, Tennessee; two sons-in-law, Steven Ray Morgan of Breeden and Royce Woolever of Circleville, Ohio; and a grandson, Anthony Pompa of Springfield, Tennessee. Others gone before him include sisters Audrey, Essie, Willie, Eva, Effie, Opal, Roanna and Imogene; brothers Roscoe, GD, Elmer, Ermal, Glen, Everette and Thaddeus; and a special friend/brother in the Lord, Jessie Messer.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife Remona Marcum; granddaughters whom he had raised or was raising as his own Emilee Morgan of Owingsville, Kentucky, and Nadilee Morgan and Haylee Morgan of Breeden; daughters Arthena (Frank) Clifton of Warsaw, Missouri, and Wanda Woolever (Ray) of Adairville, Kentucky, and son-in-law, Jim Howe of Springfield, Tennessee; grandchildren BreAnn (Brandon) Burnette of Truxton, New York, Erica Pompa of Baldwinsville, New York, Bill Oppenheimer of Hendersonville, Tennessee, John Pompa Jr. of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Michelle Pompa of Columbus Ohio, and Sarah Hicks of Burneyville, Oklahoma. Arthur was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Arthur was a devout Christian who loved serving the Lord above all else. During his many years as a Christian, the last 25 years were as a member of the Little White Church on Marrowbone in Mingo County, where he served in the capacity of deacon, elder and trustee.

He loved his family dearly and his prayer was to see them saved and join him in heaven someday.

He never met a stranger and he always had something to say about the goodness of the Lord. He would say that he had truly been blessed.

Arthur was also an avid gun collector and trader. He loved his gun-trading buddies and enjoyed every time they gathered for some trade time.

Arthur will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Per his wish, Arthur will be cremated and his remains buried in the GD Marcum Cemetery in Dingess next to his daughter Jessie. A celebration of life service will be held in his honor at The Little White Church on Marrowbone (to be announced at a later date).

A life’s crown he has won and he is now walking the streets of gold with the Lord and all his loved ones who arrived there before him and awaiting the arrival of those who will follow.
