INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s Office reported the following arrests:
James Hackney, 41, of Lovely, was arrested Monday on Lackey Branch Road in Pilgrim for second-degree burglary (complicity) and third-degree criminal mischief (complicity).
Chief Deputy Chris Kidd responded to a call Friday from a victim saying his home on Buck Branch Road in Lovely had been forcibly broken into around 7:30 p.m. Thursday and that two valuable guitars had been stolen. The deputy obtained video surveillance of the area, which showed a blue ATV that left the victim’s home with what appeared to be two guitars on the back of a passenger. Law enforcement traced the ATV to Hackney.
Deputy Kidd located Hackney on Lackey Branch Road, where the suspect allegedly disclosed that he and another male went to the victim’s home, and the other male went inside and exited a short time later with the two guitars. The two went to the accomplice’s home and then proceeded to a residence to attempt to sell the guitars. When the potential buyer refused to buy the guitars, Hackney and the accomplice returned to the accomplice’s residence. Hackney stated he left the other male, along with the guitars, there.

After observing the driver swerving and crossing the center line several times, the deputy initiated a stop at the entrance to Long Branch Road. Nichols was slurring his speech, swaying back and forth and struggling to maintain his balance, the police report states. Nichols allegedly told Kidd that he had taken suboxone and had mixed it with meth.
During the patdown, the deputy found a clear bag containing a crystal substance in Nichol’s right front pocket. Nichols allegedly stated, “It’s meth.”

Deputy Kidd responded to a report that a vehicle stolen out of Virginia was seen in Warfield along with Stacy. An initial search for Stacy in the Warfield area was unsuccessful. Around 9:30 a.m. Deputy Kidd received word that Stacy was in the vehicle and parked at the Inez Pawn Shop. The officer went to the scene and found Stacy “extremely nervous and fidgety” and unable to explain where he got the vehicle. During the investigation, law enforcement discovered the tag on the vehicle belonged to a different make and model and the vehicle was reported stolen in Virginia.
