LOVELY — A woman who identified herself to police as “homeless” was arrested on drug charges Friday in Lovely.

Chief Deputy Chris Kidd of the Martin County Sheriff’s Department encountered 48-year-old Edith Messer at around 12:30 p.m.

Messer was parked by the roadside at the mouth of Long Branch along KY-292. The police report states she was slumped over in the driver seat in a 1999 green-colored Toyota car bearing a West Virginia license plate.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy Kidd immediately noticed a tin foil wrapper containing a burned residue on the passenger seat. He then discovered more tin foil containing a white powdery substance concealed within an eyeglass case.

According to the police report, Messer stated, “It’s probably heroin.”

The deputy arrested Messer without incident and transported her to the sheriff’s office for booking.
