Charles Edward ‘Chuck’ Castle Obituary

Charles Edward ‘Chuck’ Castle

1939—2024

Charles Edward “Chuck” Castle, 84, of Kermit, West Virginia, went to be with God on Feb. 17, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born July 22, 1939, in Cabin Creek, to Ruth Cain and Leo Pierce Castle.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings Paul Castle, Pierce Castle, Harry Castle, Roberta Holstein, Linday Kay Thorne and Carol Nutter.

As a young adult, Chuck served his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy. After moving to Kermit and meeting his wife, Martha, he worked as an electrician in the coal mines. It was a hard job, but he never complained.

If you knew Chuck, you knew how much he loved his family. Reunions on Cabin Creek during the Memorial Day weekend were one of his favorite events. He loved to visit with all the ones that he was raised with. Another of his passions was his antique cars. His pride and joy was the ‘68 Camaro that he restored from nothing to the beauty that it still is today. For most of his life, he was tinkering on a vehicle of some kind.

One of the things that he held dear to his heart was the town of Kermit. He served on the Kermit City Council for 12 years and was passionate about improving the town that he loved to call home.

There was never a time that Chuck did not have a quirky saying to brighten up a person’s day. It was either “What up, Buttercup?” or “Oh golly” while playing games with the grandkids. Ask him how he was doing and you would probably get something like, “Finer than frog hairs” or “If I was any better there would need to be two of me.” He had such a way with words.

Patience is another thing that was abundant in Chuck. Any of the grandkids will tell you that they could stand in the garage with him while he worked on cars and ask him a million questions and he would answer every single one. He liked that they wanted to learn and was always there to teach them anything they wanted to know. The love that he had for each of his grandchildren was abundant and everybody knew it. He took any chance that he could to brag about his babies. Our girls always wanted to be with their Papaw, and he never minded a bit. Although he didn’t get much time with the newest addition, Waylon, they would have been the best of buddies.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Ann Sartin Castle; children Karen (John Reeve) Stewart, Melissa (Michael) Stepp, Charles E. (Betty) Castle Jr.; granddaughters Brianna Marie (Jacob) Cline, Katelyn LeAnn (Jordan) Odenthal, and Haley Alexis Stepp; one great-grandson, Waylon Drew Cline; and one sister, Leona Simmons.

A funeral service in his honor will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at Mullins Family Funeral Home, Warfield, with burial to follow at Mount View Memory Garden in Maher, West Virginia. Pastor Walter Marcum will speak. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the family. Share a fond memory or message of condolence at mullinsfamilyfuneralhome.com.
