On the sideline: In the news

BY CHUCK WHITE

Martin County High School is taking interest in a new fall sport, Cross Country.

Cross Country will consist of students running on-road and off-road trails in team races during the fall. Several students are interested in the new sport, our first time potentially having this at Martin County High School. We are currently holding an interest survey to begin the process of adding our 19th varsity sport.

Softball

A district matchup between the Paintsville Tigers and Martin County Lady Cardinals featured a thriller as the Lady Cards stormed back from a big deficit to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately, we would fall short 12-11 to the Tigers.

Fishing

The Cardinal Fishing Team had a great showing at their Hutch Paintsville Fishing Tournament during the second week of April. We had several of our students place in our biggest local tournament. Aaron Mills and Alex Bowen hauled in a 3.26-pound largemouth, and a four-fish bag, winning big fish of the tournament. Adian Burke and Caleb Horn of MCHS finished with a 6-pound bag on Paintsville Lake. Our anglers faced tough conditions of 20 mph winds along with rain and snow for several hours.
