PRESTONSBURG — UK King’s Daughters Prestonsburg offers 3D mammography screenings Monday through Friday. Screenings are available onboard King’s Daughters mobile unit located right outside the Prestonsburg Family Care Center at 1279 Old Abbott Mountain Road.
This service is made possible through a grant in collaboration with the Kentucky Women’s Cancer Screening Program, which supports early detection of breast cancer, targeting underserved Appalachian women in eastern Kentucky. The grant provides free or reduced-cost exams for uninsured or underinsured women living in Carter, Floyd, Johnson, Knott, Magoffin, Martin and Pike counties in Kentucky.
“It can often be difficult for women in rural communities to access screening mammograms,” said King’s Daughters Breast Care Center clinical supervisor Doretha Pridemore, RN. “With the mobile unit in Prestonsburg five days a week, we are able to provide women in this community and surrounding communities these life-saving screenings.”
The American College of Radiology recommends annual screening mammograms for all women over the age of 40 regardless of symptoms or family history. According to the ACR, Breast cancer can grow quickly, so it is important to have a screening mammogram every year.
To schedule a mammogram, call (606) 408-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-304-1935.
When arriving for a mammogram screening appointment, patients are asked to complete registration inside the Family Care Center.
