INEZ — Katie Marcum #32, a dominant power forward/center for the Martin County Lady Cards, solidified her commitment to Coach John Mills and the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles by signing a national letter of intent Feb. 2. Family, coaches and friends attended the signing ceremony at Martin County High School.
Marcum is a four-year varsity starter and has played a crucial role in the program’s success, contributing to a remarkable 96-39 overall record during her career. She helped lead the Lady Cardinals to back-to-back 57th District titles.
Marcum has spent countless hours in the gym practicing her skills. She has accumulated over 1,500 points and grabbed 1,000 rebounds for the Lady Cardinals.
The signing ceremony marked a dream come true for Marcum.
“I want to thank Coach Mills for giving me this opportunity and believing in me,” she said. “I want to thank my parents, grandparents, siblings, family and friends for always pushing me to be my best and for having my back. I also want to thank my coaches for preparing me to get where I am today. My signing was everything I thought it would be and more. I’m so excited to continue my athletic career at ALC and get my education. I couldn’t have done it without your guys’ support. I love you guys.”
Martin County coach Robin Newsome predicts Marcum will be a huge asset to Alice Lloyd.
“Katie can play inside and has the shot to play on the outside,” Newsome said. “She is committed to working hard and doing what she needs to do to play at the next level. Katie is an excellent person and student. She works very hard at her game and is always in a gym somewhere working to improve her game.”
Marcum is the daughter of Hazel and Bobby Marcum.
