Panthers roll to pair of wins

NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — Tug Valley continued its winning ways as the Panthers rolled over the Sherman Tide 88-46 Saturday night at the TVHS gym in Naugatuck.

The Panthers clawed out to a 31-7 lead after one quarter and led 53-21 heading into the dressing room at the half.

Kaden Hale and Braydun Ferris each scored 10 points in the first period. Ferris also dished out four assists. Big Buddy Marcum led the way in the second quarter with 8 points and Ferris added four more points and three more assists for Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson’s squad.

Ferris finished the game with 21 points and seven assists, while Marcum banked in 19 and Hale 12 to lead the Panthers in scoring. Marcum led TV with 10 rebounds in the game. Carson Newsome had a good game off the bench netting 12 points.

Bryson Elia and Brady Brewer each chipped in seven points and Elia also dished out four assists.

Evan Bryant scored four, while Preston May, Ben Brumfield and CJ Branham each added two points for the Panthers.

Tug Valley is now 10-1 on the season and was ranked No. 2 in the Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the AP Poll. They are slated to play four games this week, including two this weekend in the Hatfield-McCoy Shootout at the Williamson Fieldhouse.

Tug 75, Van 46

VAN, W.Va. — The Tug Valley Panthers ran over the Van Bulldogs 75-46 in a road game Thursday night in Boone County.

Several underclassmen got plenty of playing time for Tug Valley.

Twelve players got into the scoring column for Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson.

Sophomore Carson Newsome led the way with 16 points and freshman Preston May added 11. Bryson Elia, Jace Hale and Ashton Davis each scored eight points in the game and Ben Brumfield added six. Braydun Ferris chipped in four and dished out five assists, while Buddy Marcum scored five points. Brady Brewer scored three, while three players each scored two points, including Evan Bryant, Derek Jewell and Cam Slone.

Tug Valley led 54-20 at halftime and cruised in the second half to improve to a 9-1 record on the season.
