BARDSTOWN — Martin County High School wrestling finished sixth in the KYWCA 1A State Dual Championships Saturday at Nelson County High School in Bardstown. The Cards defeated Bell County 63-18, fell to Mason County 48-33, recovered to beat Nelson County 54-27 and lost the final dual to Walton-Verona 42-34.
In the dual against Bell County, Haskel Fugitt (165 lbs), George Lemaster (175), Damien Cheek (190), Bryston Wells (285), Nick Harless (113), Brody Mollett (126), Brock Messer (132), Jake Stafford (138), Parker Maynard (144), Rafe Price (150) and Bailey Crum (157) all secured wins.
Six Martin County wrestlers were victorious vs. Mason County. John Cline (106), Harless, Mollett, Messer, Maynard and Price all defeated their opponents.
In the dual against Nelson County, Cline, Harless, Gavin Stepp (120), Messer, Stafford, Maynard, Price, Cheek and Wells put the Cardinals on top by defeating their opponents.
In the last dual of the day vs. Walton-Verona, Cline, Harless, Mollett, Messer, Crum, Lemaster and Wells were winners to keep the score close.
Looking ahead, the Cards are gearing up for the KHSAA regional championships Friday at Pike Central High School.
