Lady Cards junior varsity picks up win over Lawrence

INEZ — The Martin County Lady Cardinals defeated Lawrence County 47-39 in junior varsity action Jan. 23 at home.

The Lady Cardinals led the Bulldogs 10-6 after one quarter of play. They struggled offensively in the second quarter, scoring four points to Lawrence County’s 15 to fall behind 21-14 at the half.

As Chloe May and Maci Maynard went to work, things heated up in the third quarter. May and Maynard combined for 21 of the 26 points to give the Lady Cardinals a 40-26 lead.

Lawrence battled back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Martin County 13-7, but it was not enough. The Lady Cards sailed on to the win.

May led Martin County with 15 points. Eighth-grader Maci Maynard finished with 10 points and 10 boards for a double-double. Candace Spaulding scored 10 points, seventh grader Annaleigh Davis chipped in eight, and Alivia Robinson and Angelina Moore each pitched in two.

Artrip led Lawrence County with 15 points, Adkins finished with nine, Caudill netted seven, Stinnett and Bowen each added three, and Spillman tossed in two.
