INEZ — Alyssa Allen, a standout 5-foot-11 guard/forward from Martin County High School, fulfilled her dream by signing her national letter of intent to pursue higher education and continue her basketball journey at Alice Lloyd College. The signing ceremony was Thursday at MCHS.
Allen, a dedicated member of the Lady Cardinals basketball team for five years, is a three-year varsity starter and plays a crucial role in the team’s success, contributing to a remarkable 96-38 overall record during her tenure.
Throughout her high school career, Allen has dedicated her time to practicing and attending camps to improve her skills on the court. She has accumulated over 700 points and grabbed 378 rebounds for the Lady Cardinals.
The signing ceremony marked a significant milestone for Allen, who expressed her excitement about the opportunity to continue her basketball journey at the collegiate level. She thanked her coaches, friends and family, especially her mother and BJ, for their unwavering support.
Allen shared her aspirations for college.
“Signing with ALC is one of the biggest moments of my high school career, and I’m so incredibly excited and happy to be continuing my basketball journey into college,” she said. “My goal is to have the best college experience I can have, win basketball games, get an education and experience new things.”
The daughter of Debbie and Larry Allen, she received praise from Coach Robin Newsome, who believes she will be a valuable asset to Coach John Mills and the Alice Lloyd Eagles.
“Alyssa has the great size with guard shooting abilities and ball handling skills,” Newsome commented. “Alyssa is a versatile player on the court and an excellent student committed to continuous improvement.”
Newsome commended Allen’s strong work ethic, noting her dedication to training and enhancement, attending shooting camps, and engaging in weightlifting sessions to refine her game.
Martin County High School, Lady Cards coaches and players celebrated Allen’s achievements and her contributions to the school and basketball program.
