One killed, another injured in Mingo County crash

MILLERS CREEK, W.Va. — One person was killed after a horrendous head-on collision on U.S. Route 119 in Mingo County Friday evening.

Another person was seriously injured in the accident.

The victim was identified as Scott Slone, 56, of Chapmanville, formerly of Mingo County. He is the son of Mingo County Board of Education member Tom Slone and his wife Brenda.

The driver of the other vehicle was reportedly a woman from Ohio.

The West Virginia State Police said the two vehicles were traveling in the northbound lanes of Route 119 (Corridor G) about 7 miles north of Williamson when the collision occurred.

One person was pronounced dead after their arrival at South Williamson ARH Hospital, while the other vehicle’s driver was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment.

“There were no other individuals involved,” the WVSP press release stated.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, according to the Williamson detachment of the WVSP.
