HUNTINGTON — Tug Valley High School won its sixth state cheerleading championship in the last seven years and 10th overall with Saturday’s Class A state title at the Henderson Center on the Marshall University campus in Huntington.
The squad is coached by Tara Mitchell and her two assistants are Marie White and Deana Wellman.
The cheer team consists of Selicity Baisden, McKynnli Farley, Jessica Spaulding, Laura Spaulding, Kylee Reed, Tailyn Russell, Amelya Wellman, Chelsea Perry, Lila Duncan, Molly Hatfield, Alyson Marcum, Tyson Miller, Addison Ooten, Gracie Smith, Payton Moore, Maddie Messer, Megan Pack and Alexa Perry.
Of the 10 titles, Mitchell has been involved in seven of them. She was on the 2005 team as a cheerleader and has now won six as a coach.
“I am so blessed,” Mitchell said.
The coach added that she is proud of her squad and all of the hard work they have put into their craft.
