Pike County substitute teacher arrested for rape

PIKEVILLE — A full-time substitute teacher with the Pike County school district was arrested on a charge of third-degree rape.

Hunter Plymale, 25, of Kimper, was taken into custody Nov. 13 by troopers at Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post 9 after an investigation into allegations he committed rape in June 2022 on a remote road near Sidney.

According to KSP Public Affairs Trooper Michael Coleman, details of the case have not been released.

Plymale was a full-time substitute teacher at Belfry High School during the 2021-2022 school year. During the current year, he has worked primarily at the Millard and Elkhorn City schools on a part-time basis.

The Pike County School District did not confirm or deny that the case was related to Plymale’s substitute teaching position but has terminated his due to the ongoing investigation.
