WARFIELD — The community is invited to come together for the 2023 A Warfield Park Christmas Dec. 10 to relive past Christmas joys and create new memories with family and friends.

Brionna Shrum, a Warfield resident, has collaborated with District 5 Magistrate Ronald Workman, Lori Workman, residents, officials, churches, and businesses to organize this festive event.

“We warmly invite all Martin Countians and neighbors to join us on Dec. 10,” Shrum said. “We’ve put in great effort to make this event memorable. Come and experience the best of Warfield.”

The festivities begin at 6 p.m. with an opening prayer by Warfield Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Garmon Preece. This will be followed by a tree lighting ceremony led by Martin County Judge/Executive Lon Lafferty and Magistrate Workman.

The ceremony will feature a special tree adorned with ornaments honoring deceased loved ones, sponsored by their families and friends. These names will be read aloud during the ceremony, and ornaments can be collected afterward.

Additionally, a second Christmas tree, decorated with ornaments crafted by Warfield Elementary School art students, will be displayed.

Pastor Daniel Mayhew of Wolf Creek Community Church will narrate the story of Jesus’ birth. The public is advised that seating is limited and to bring their own chairs.

The entertainment lineup includes performances by the Warfield Elementary School cheer team to “Underneath the Christmas Tree,” the Martin County Middle School cheer team to “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree,” and the Martin County High School dance team to “All I Want for Christmas.”

Santa Claus will arrive on a firetruck for a meet-and-greet, assisted by MCHS JAG elves. Children, accompanied by an adult, will receive stockings.

The evening also offers a visit to “Whoville,” sponsored by Kirk Towing, where children can meet The Grinch.

Refreshments will be provided by local churches.

“We’re grateful to our county officials and sponsors,” added Shrum. “Special thanks to Ronald and Lori Workman for their tireless efforts. We have teamed up from the get-go. Warfield is a wonderful place with people who care about their town and their county.”
