Martin County reels in 22-boat field in annual fishing tourney

INEZ — Martin County Cardinal Fishing braved the weather Saturday as they hosted the Hutch Auto Group High School & Youth Fishing Tournament at Paintsville Lake.

The tournament had a field of 22 boats from Martin, Johnson and Lawrence counties.

Anglers started about 7 a.m. on a day that saw 15-20 mph winds, rain, sleet, snow and bitter cold.

In the high school division, Ethan Blair and Tate Tackett of Johnson Central finished first with 8.40 pounds; Jacob Grimm and Austin Slone of JCHS finished second with 7.78 pounds; Martin County anglers Aidan Burke and Caleb Horn finished third with 5.97 pounds.

The boat of Arron Mills and Alex Bowen finished with the “Big Fish” of the tournament, caught by Mills and weighing 3.25 pounds.

Youth first place and Big Fish winners were Ethan Wambles and Bryce LeMaster of Johnson County Middle School.
