Porter killed in Route 40 crash

INEZ — A coal miner traveling home from work died Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Route 40 near Inez.

The second deadly crash in Martin County in a week claimed the life of Jamie Lee Porter, 39, of Inez.

The accident happened at about 3 a.m. when Porter’s vehicle struck a tree in a sharp curve along Blacklog Road.

Porter was transported to an area hospital but later pronounced dead.

Kentucky State Police Post 9 investigated but released no information.

Porter was born Feb. 12, 1983, in Louisa, to the late Luther Porter and Sally Johnson Porter of Inez.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Holly Hedges Porter; three sons, Luther (Alexis Slone) Dingess, Joshua (Savannah Harmon) Dingess and Caleb (Tara Sansom) Dingess; one daughter, Kaitlyn (Aaron Dial) Dingess of Morehead; and two sisters, Angela Dalton and Misty (Robert) Dillon, both of Inez. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Presley Faith Dial of Morehead; seven nieces and nephews, Angel Porter, Jasmine Porter, Tierra Noel, Lucas Dillon, Erica Dillon, Lennox Brown and Soren Noel; and his dog, “Little Booty.”

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Vineyard United Baptist Church, with David Bowen officiating. He was laid to rest at the Johnson-Porter Cemetery, under the direction of Crum Funeral Home.
