INEZ — Christmas in the Mountains organizers are asking residents and businesses from one end of Martin County to the other to display lighted crosses Nov. 1 as a reminder that Jesus was born to save the world and died on the cross to save us all.

“We would love to see our entire county lit up,” festival organizer Linda Lou Webb said. “The cross is a sign of hope and a promise that we can spend eternity in heaven.”

Webb hopes everyone will share photos of their crosses on Facebook, tag the CITM Facebook page and use the hashtag #lightupacrossforChristmas2023.

Tickets go on sale Nov. 2 at Shufflin Café in Inez and via PayPal for A Merry Little Christmas Party, scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, at the Collier Center. Tickets are $20 single and $30 per couple and include dinner and entertainment. The event is semi-formal. Send PayPal purchases to CITMfunds@gmail.com. If you choose this option, include what your payment is for in the memo.

“We will be crowning the 2023 Mr. and Ms. Christmas in the Mountains during the Nov. 26 event, and we encourage all who can attend to come and be with us for a fun-filled evening,” said Webb.

Community Decorating Day is Sunday, Nov. 5, from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. Webb encourages families and groups to assist in decorating and stringing Christmas lights in Inez in preparation for the unveiling Nov. 11. Anyone willing to lend a hand can meet up behind the Historic Martin County Courthouse.

“This is a great time for families to work together and to fellowship with their friends and neighbors,” said Webb. “This is also a great way to teach your children the importance of giving back to the community and being a part of an event attended by thousands of people across the region. Teach them the value of giving their time to a cause larger than themselves.”

Tickets for a chance to win a beautiful quilt handcrafted by Sew and Sew go on sale Nov. 5 and can be purchased at Shufflin Café or via PayPal. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The raffle winner will be announced Dec. 2.

“Keep purchasing weekly editions of the Mountain Citizen and check their website for updates,” said Webb. “And keep checking our 2023 Christmas in the Mountains Facebook page for information and a complete schedule of events as it becomes available.”
