WEST LIBERTY — The Martin County Cross Country team competed in the 1A Region 7 men’s 5K Saturday in Morgan County.
The competition featured 50 athletes representing various schools from the surrounding area.
The Cardinals, led by coach Josh Penix, gave their all, striving to make their mark in the challenging event.
Junior Joseph Vinson finished 24th with a respectable time of 24 minutes, 25 seconds. Vinson finished as the sixth individual, just one position out of qualifying for the state tournament.
Junior Douglas Hale secured the 33rd position with a time of 32 minutes flat.
Freshman Aaron Horn finished closely behind, coming in 34th with a time of 32 minutes, 12 seconds.
The team’s effort was not without obstacles. Competitors Tanner Jennings and Gavin Stepp faced disqualification during the event.
