Billy Ray Hammond
1941—2023

Billy Ray Hammond, age 82, of Louisa, passed away Oct. 14, 2023, at CAMC Memorial in Charleston, West Virginia.

Born Feb. 3, 1941, in Crum, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Mont and Mabel Copley Hammond.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Vennie Hammond; one son, Billy Jack Hammond; one daughter, Peggy Music; four brothers, Jack Hammond, Clyde Hammond, Ronnie Hammond and Charles Hammond; two sisters, Anita Haney and Minnie Sue Bailey; and one grandson, Brandon Preece.

Survivors include two sons, Elmer (Connie Preece) Hammond and Robert “Bobby” Hammond, both of Louisa; one daughter, Jan Runyon of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Joe Hammond of Louisville; and one sister, Pauletta Barrett of South Carolina. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Sheena Copley, Jimmy Ray Gantt, Brian Gantt, Ryan Runyon, Kendra Runyon, Felecia Hammond, Bobbie Sue “Lucy” Howard, Kaylee Hammond, Emily Hammond, Kilee Jo Muncy, Shyleh Muncy, Nova Maynard and Sabrina Preece, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at noon in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home, Inez, with Casey Carver officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Garden in Louisa. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
