INEZ — The planning committee for the Sheldon Clark High School Class of 1993 has chosen to hold their 30th class reunion Dec. 2 in downtown Inez during the Christmas in The Mountains Festival.

Classmates say they are excited to see their hometown showcased in all her festive glory.

Mandy Horn Lawson and Gwen Small Bates are heading up the event and put to vote several possibilities of where and when to hold the reunion. According to Horn, the unanimous vote was to meet during the festival.

“Christmas is such a special time and brings with it a warmth and welcome like no other,” said Lawson, who has remained in Martin County and currently teaches school at Warfield Elementary. “The last couple of years, I have been so impressed and truly in awe of how wonderful the Christmas in the Mountains festival was. There’s no better time to reconnect with classmates and their families who have moved away and let them see how truly beautiful our little town is than when we celebrate the Christmas season and its meaning.”

Lawson said the committee considered several options and dates for the reunion but decided to stay away from summertime since that is typically a hectic time for families who travel on vacations. The group narrowed the options down and put them to a vote on the class’s Facebook page.

“Every single person chose the December date, and I, for one, couldn’t be more excited,” explained Lawson.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, the Class of 1993 will gather in the upstairs banquet room at Shufflin Café on Main Street for a meet and greet and a meal if desired. The group will watch the Christmas in the Mountain parade from their second-floor location as they spend the evening reminiscing and catching up with their classmates.

“We’ve already had 30 or so from our class to RSVP to say they are coming, and we’re hopeful that a lot more will be able to attend,” said Lawson. “It will be a wonderful day to bring your families and spend the day at the festival as we get to enjoy everything our county and city have to offer.

“I’m excited to see what those who have moved away think about the positive changes in our town, and I think I can speak for all of them when I say the hard work and effort that goes into making Christmas in the Mountains a roaring success is much appreciated. We thank you for allowing us to make our reunion a part of this year’s festivities.”

Lawson extends a special invitation to the teachers, coaches and other school administrators of the class of 1993 to attend the reunion.

“We would absolutely love to get as many together as we can,” stated Lawson. “We have greatly enjoyed our 10th- and 20th-year reunions and we’d love to have our 30th be the best one yet.”
