WILLIAMSON, W. Va. — A fire broke out at a Williamson business around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The blaze started on an upper floor at 68 West Fourth Avenue, which houses Muncy Auto Parts. This was the former location of the old Coal City car parts building.

The Williamson Fire Department responded immediately with assistance from the Chattaroy, Belfry and Delbarton volunteer fire departments. Williamson and Belfry used ladder trucks to spray water from above the structure toward the roof.

The City of Williamson released a statement that indicated the fire may have originated from an occupied apartment located near the rear side of the building.

No injuries were reported.

“We are grateful for the assistance of the Chattaroy, Belfry and Delbarton VFDs. A total of nine hoses doused the blaze with a sufficient supply of water,” Williamson Mayor Charles Hatfield said. “With the skill set of the firefighters, the fire was extinguished fairly quickly.”

The fire was brought under control. However, firefighters remained there for part of the day to put out hot spots.

The street was closed for much of Thursday.
