Letter to the Editor: Trash ordinance ‘injustice’

Editor:

Regarding the new Martin County trash ordinance, respectfully, I have a personal feeling of injustice here. It appears that our county’s form of government is weaponizing constables and certain people to come uninvited upon one’s property and deem what you may or may not have.

Now, I am all for health hazards to be taken care of, but the leader of this effort, Dr. Lafferty, has enjoyed a business that has been on the backs of the poor people of this county, all while these living conditions were not a problem. Now he wants to impose on those same people that have supported him all of his life restrictions and laws. This code enforcement officer seems to be judge, jury and cash register.

Having a clean county is one thing for economic development, but realizing just where you are has a lot to do with understanding why you do not have economic development.

It seems to me that the doctor should be more interested in the flow of turds down our streets and the lack of sanitary water because that would be the No. 1 prerequisite to health.

Folks, each and every magistrate that votes for this should be reminded at the next election time and shown the door.

Respectfully submitted,
