PAINTSVILLE — Martin County remains undefeated in regional play after a 5-0 win over Johnson Central on the road Thursday.

The Lady Cards were coming off a 10-0 win at home against Letcher County Central and were ready to play the Eagles.

The first half saw the Eagles play tough defense, keeping the Lady Cards out of the net for most of the half. The Lady Cards kept the pressure on, which paid off with a foul by JC that led to a penalty kick. Captain Lena Hale calmly stepped to the line and scored, giving MC a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Lady Cards picked up the pace in the second half, leading to more shots on goal. Forward Laura Hale played her best half all season, scoring a hat trick despite triple coverage at times. With 10 minutes left in the game, Lena Hale scored her second goal to give the Lady Cards the win.

Coach Steven Hale’s squad improved to 6-2 on the season and a four-game winning streak.

“The girls were really looking forward to this game and played hard. It’s an exciting win for us,” stated Coach Gauze. “We are starting to play together as a team. I’m excited to see what we can do in the All-A this year.”

This week the Lady Cards will play in the All-A State tournament and were scheduled to kick off Tuesday against Shelby Valley.

Prestonsburg High School will host this year’s All-A at the Stonecrest Athletic Complex.
