Howard Maynard
1931—2023

Howard Maynard, 92, of Sitka (formerly of Martin County), passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023, surrounded by those who loved him at his home.

Born Jan. 2, 1931, in Pilgrim, he was the son of the late Clay Maynard and Laura (Harmon) Maynard. In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by his first wife, Claudeen (Preece) Maynard and his wife of 46 years, Louise (Justice) Maynard; sons, Howard Maynard Jr. and Ralph Maynard; and daughter, Marlene (Maynard) Allen. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Clay Maynard Jr. and Homer Maynard, and sisters, Louise Kilgore, Nola Antle and Fannie Jude.

Howard, also known as “Dad” and “Daddypa,” is survived by his children, Patty (Boyd) Robinson, Johnny (Jennifer) Maynard, Clifford (Sarah) Maynard, Lisa (Brock) Hall, Joyce Pauley, Claude (Jennifer) Jude and Diana Maynard; sisters, Barbara Whitman, Edna Howell and Columbia Kilgore; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, in the Phelps & Son Funeral Home chapel, with Terry Harmon officiating. Burial was in the Jude-Fletcher Cemetery in Pilgrim. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.
