WARFIELD — Martin County Middle School Lady Cards came away with back-to-back wins over East Perry 42-20 and 32-29 on Aug. 15 and Betsy Layne 41-28 Thursday.
Below is a recap of the games.
MC 42, EP 20
In game 1 vs. East Perry, the Lady Cards dominated with a final score of 42-20.
Annaleigh Davis led the charge with 18 points, closely followed by Maci Maynard with 14. Des Gullett added six points and KK Maynard finished with four.
The Lady Cards got a fast start leading 18-4 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
MC 32, EP 29
In the second game of the night both teams battled as East Perry caught fire. The Lady Cards got off to a slow start. The Lady Cardinals were in front 32-29 when the horn sounded.
Maci Maynard led the Lady Cards with 12 points, Des Gullett netted nine, and KK Maynard and Davis contributed four points apiece.
MC 41, BL 28
Martin County was behind 12-10 at the end of the first quarter Thursday against Betsy Layne but pulled ahead 20-18 by halftime.
The Lady Cards turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter giving up two points to take a 29-20 lead.
The Bobcats tried to rally in the fourth, but the Lady Cards hung on for the 41-28 win.
Maci Maynard led Martin County with 15 points, Annaleigh Davis tallied 12 points, Des Gullett finished with seven, Caylee Moore added four and Anna Hinkle contributed one.
With the win the Lady Cards move to 10-1 on the season.
Coach Boo Newsome said she was proud of how her players came together.
“We are improving with each and every game,” Newsome said. “We still have a lot we can improve on. We will continue to work hard.”
