LEXINGTON — Martin County High School golfer Jake James showed his talent at the Dunbar Bulldog Invitational held Thursday at Kearney Hills Golf Links.
James made a strong debut in his first tournament of the 2023 season, finishing 22nd out of 83 with an impressive score of 84.
The challenging course, set at a par 72 and spanning 6,785 yards, provided a great test for all golfers.
Despite facing unfavorable rainy conditions, James stayed the course.
The weather posed several challenges, causing an hour-and-a-half rain delay during the round, making it a long and challenging day for all golfers.
The wet and soggy conditions forced the golfers to play the ball down for the entire round.
Golf coach Boo Newsome commended James for his performance, recognizing his potential to score All-State points throughout the season.
“With more tournaments and rounds ahead, Jake has the opportunity to make a significant impact and establish himself as a top contender in high school golf,” Newsome said.
James and the golf team have several tournaments scheduled for the 2023 season.
