INEZ — Martin County basketball star Laken Williams received a college basketball offer from Kentucky Christian University last week.
One of the top guards in the class of 2024, Williams has also secured offers from West Virginia Tech and Shawnee State.
Williams attended the KCU camp with her Lady Cardinal basketball team June 22-23. KCU Coach Lisa Conn was already actively recruiting Williams. At the end of the two-day camp, Conn made the official offer.
Williams said she was honored by the offer and thanked her teammates, Coach Conn and KCU for the opportunity.
As a junior last season, Williams averaged 21.2 points per game for Martin County and was ranked in the KHSAA top 20 in scoring. She shot 40% from the field and dished out five assists per game.
“Laken is a special player and has a lot of natural athletic ability,” Martin County Coach Robin Newsome said. “She has dedicated her life to playing the game of basketball. She is always in the gym and works out year-round. She loves the game.”
Williams is also a 4.0 student.
