INEZ — The students at Inez Elementary School have had an eventful summer with the school’s 21st Century Summer Program. The series of educational excursions that spanned the state concluded last week with a memorable visit to the Newport Aquarium.
The program, under the direction of Lois Cassady, saw the students exploring various sites of cultural and natural importance across Kentucky. Their adventures included a trip to Carter Caves, where they witnessed remarkable geological formations. They also made a safari to the Louisville Zoo, where there was no shortage of fun.
The young explorers also had the opportunity to delve into the past as they toured Shaker Village in Harrodsburg, absorbing valuable lessons about community and simplicity from the historic settlement. A stop at Jacobson Park added a refreshing twist to their travels as the students made the most of the park’s splash pad.
However, the grand finale of the program was June 23 when the students visited the Newport Aquarium. There, they encountered a variety of aquatic creatures, deepening their appreciation for the vastness and diversity of underwater life.
Adding to the celebration, the end of the summer program also marked the occasion of the annual iPad giveaway sponsored by Appalachia Reach Out. This year, Selena Lehman had the honor of presenting the coveted Apple iPad to the lucky student, Jaxson Maynard. The entire school community extends hearty congratulations to Jaxson.
Inez Elementary’s 21st Century Summer Program provides its students with enriching experiences and promotes consistent learning. As part of this ongoing commitment, the program will resume Tribe Time after the 2023-2024 school term starts, offering homework help and enrichment to students after school Monday to Thursday until 5 p.m.
Looking ahead, the students at Inez Elementary School have another exciting summer to anticipate. Plans are already underway for another action-packed four weeks of summer programming in 2024, promising more opportunities for exploration, discovery and fun.
