Alma Colegrove
1947—2023
Alma Lea Messer Ferguson Colegrove, 76, of Glen Allen, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 9, 2023, at her home.
Alma was born Jan. 4, 1947, in Breeden, West Virginia, to the late James Leo Messer and Martha Hodge Messer.
Alma is preceded in death by two sons Timothy Leslie Ferguson and Johnny Ferguson, one grandson Donald Newsome Jr, great-granddaughter Emily Renee Wellman, niece Dawn Michelle Vance, and a great-nephew Dylan Lee Allman.
Alma was a retired social worker with an associate degree from Southern West Virginia Community College and a master’s in social work from Marshall University. She worked at Dignity Hospice in Chapmanville and for Social Services in Wayne.
She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with an unforgettable smile and unconditional love for each of us. She had a very kind heart but was very strong-willed when it was something she truly believed in. She provided solid advice to her children and others. Our precious mom loved to have long conversations with her children, and even on the phone, with Mother’s witty humor, no one could outwit her.
She never met anyone she didn’t like. Random strangers became lifelong friends. We were blessed with our mother for what seemed like a short period of time. One day, we will see her again in our heavenly home, where we will spend eternal life together.
Alma is survived by her spouse, Leslie Ferguson of Dingess; son, Gregory Allen (Mary) Ferguson of Chapmanville; daughters, Donna Ferguson and Emily Ann (Steve) Wellman of Glen Allen, Virginia, and Martha Elaine (Donald) McCoy of Dingess; grandchildren, Brandon (DeeDee) Ferguson and Austin (Georgianna) Ferguson of Charleston, Jacqlyn (Kyle) Endicott and Timothy Newsome of Dingess, Christian (Abbie) Wellman, Joshua Macon, and Hunter Wellman of Glen Allen, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Abel Ferguson, Eli Ferguson, Joel Ferguson, Lydia Ferguson, Sammi Endicott, Amelia Endicott, Natalee Endicott, Baby Macon and Baby Ferguson; brothers, Lloyd (Mary Ellen) Messer and James Randy (Alice) Messer; sisters, Phyllis Clay, Tennie (Harold) Johnson and Bonnie (E.J.) Maynard; one special niece, Terry (Vance) Bryant; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services were held June 16, 2023, at the House of Prayer, with Pastor David Adkins officiating. Burial was at the Rest High on the Mountian in Genoa. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
