PRESTONSBURG — Martin County Senior Citizens Center hauled home an impressive 26 medals from the Big Sandy Senior Games Banquet held June 7 at the Jenny Wiley Convention Center.
The seasoned competitors left no doubt about their athletic prowess after showcasing their skills in the 36th Big Sandy Senior Games May 19 in Prestonsburg.
“These achievements serve as an inspiration to everyone,” MCSCC director Jennifer Jude Crum said. “Passion and a competitive spirit have no expiration date.”
Among the medal winners was Bertha Jude, who competed in the 60-64 age group. Jude clinched second-place medals in horseshoes and archery while securing a respectable third place in shuffleboard.
Doug Goble, another remarkable Martin County Senior Citizen Center athlete, also competed in the 60-64 age category. Goble’s exceptional performance saw him win the first-place medals in lawn bowling and cornhole toss, second place in basketball free throw and third place in softball toss, archery and football toss.
Julia Chance, competing in the 70-74 age group, was awarded for a stellar performance. Chance claimed first place in basketball free throw, showcasing her skills and accuracy. Additionally, she secured a commendable third place in cornhole toss and basketball shot, cementing her status as a top-notch competitor.
Dan Chance, also in the 70-74 age group, collected a well-deserved second-place medal for his proficiency in cornhole toss.
Norma Bowen, in the same age group, brought her A-game and clinched a first-place archery award while securing second place in football toss.
Betty Jude, competing alongside them, was awarded a medal for her talent in football toss.
Esther Kirk, the remarkable competitor in the 75-79 age group, dominated the awards ceremony for her exceptional performance. Kirk claimed first-place medals in horseshoes, softball toss and basketball free throw. She added a second-place medal in lawn bowling, solidifying her reputation as a formidable athlete.
Norma Jarrell, also competing in the 75-79 age group, received a first-place medal in bowling and second place in horseshoes, proving she is an invaluable asset to the Martin County team.
Ida Ward, in the 75-79 age group, proved her mettle by adding to the team’s medal count for a remarkable second-place finish in football toss.
Dovie Crum, who competed in the 80-84 age group, garnered medals for her exceptional performance. Crum’s brought home the first-place hardware in horseshoes and softball toss. She also secured a commendable third place in archery.
