Michael Newsome
1961—2023

Michael “Yard Dog” Newsome, 61, of Ft. Gay, West Virginia, passed away at his home Friday, May 26, 2023.

He was born Nov. 3, 1961, in Williamson to the late Lokie and Sylvia Newsome. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Newsome. 

Michael is survived by his wife, Janet Newsome; two children, Michael Eric Newsome and Sylvia LaDawn (Steven) Blackburn, both of Ft. Gay; and four grandsons, Eli, Dakota, Keaton and Zayden Blackburn. He is also survived by one sister, Amy Lynn (Wayne) Newsome of Kermit. 

He was a jack of all trades and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the Neely Branch United Baptist Church in Kermit with Bobby Perry, Michael Bryant and Russell Ball officiating. Burial was at the Wayne Sturgell Cemetery under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
