Bird’s Eye View

BY KEILAN JEWELL

Hello, Cardinal Nation! Welcome to this week’s Bird’s Eye View, written by Keilan Jewell. There’s a lot to go over, so let’s get started.

First and foremost, let us look at the JAG NCDC results. To begin, Drew Wilson, Tamara Workman, and Grace Caldwell of Martin County’s Project-Based Learning Showcase Team finished fifth in the nation! Tamara Workman finished 10th in the career preparation presentation, while Sophie McCoy accepted the national service project for Kentucky and served as the state’s voting representative for everything NCDC. She excelled in her leadership role. While some did not place, you can be guaranteed they did their state award-winning duties flawlessly and represented Cardinal Nation admirably! Congratulations on a job well done, NCDC winners and competitors!

We also had a JAG signing day at Martin County High School. Bailey Dials, Chelsea Jude and Hannah Tackett all committed to the University of Kentucky. Tori Crum committed to BSCTC. Matthew Linville committed to WV Tech. Hannah Stacy committed to Southern West Virginia. Savannah Young and Paige Maynard committed to Morehead State. Kristen Wells committed herself to Alice Lloyd. Chris Phillips, Dawson Mills, Elbert Smith, Nicholas Mollett, and Kamryn Mollett committed to the world of work/workforce. Kaley Maynard has committed to post-secondary education but remains undecided.

We would also love to give a special shoutout to our foreign exchange students, Emilia Ek and Joanna Hung. We will all miss you both dearly, and it has been a pleasure spending this school year together.

Another event that took place was the underclassmen awards! Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen were awarded one of two medals based on their grades. Those who won a red medal had a GPA ranging from 3.500 to 3.999, while those who received a blue medal had a GPA of 4.000 or higher! Many kids received one of the two medals, demonstrating how bright Martin County High School students are! Students who completed the Green Dot training program were recognized with a certificate. The ATC awards were also presented. Everyone is proud of every single one of the students who received an award.

The scholarship banquet was held Thursday evening. In addition to the numerous local scholarships, scholarships were provided by the University of Kentucky, Big Sandy, Morehead State University and Eastern Kentucky University.

As the academic year comes to an end, graduation is quickly approaching. Everyone is looking forward to seeing these graduates finish this chapter of their lives and move on to the next. Their graduation will take place at the football field May 26 at 7:30 p.m. Project Graduation will also take place Thursday night (May 25) in the Community Center.

Finally, the moment that these seniors have all been waiting for: Graduation.

Graduation will be held this Friday Night at “The Rock” at 7:30 p.m. We hope to see everyone there to support our amazing seniors. We will miss them dearly.

That’ll be it for our last Bird’s Eye View of the year. This is Keilan Jewell signing off!
