In Canada, a believer operated a large grain farm. His spread included some 2,500 acres. When asked how he planted the seed, he reached into a bin and pulled out an ear of corn. Then he proceeded to pop out the kernels one by one as he walked along, demonstrating the planting process.
Do you believe that? No sir! That’s not what he said, nor is it what he did. He pointed to a distributor that was some 30 feet wide.
“We take that double tandem truck, fill it with certified seed, back it up to the distributor, open the slots and pour in the seed.”
He went on to say, “If you’re ever going to be cheap, don’t be cheap with the seed.” One bushel of seed invested yields 30 bushels of grain harvested in a good year.
Thirty-to-one is not a bad return if you are ready to believe and willing to invest.
God says, “Believe Me, trust Me, try My plan, prove My ways, and see the kind of harvest I will give.” So Paul guarantees this principle of truth in the Scripture with the promise, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
All grace, all ways, all sufficiency and all things! There are four promises in one breath. Knowing it is one thing, believing it is quite another.
Have you sown any good seed lately? How much of a crop do you want? You will sow only as much as you expect to get.
A lot of us want to take shortcuts in life but expect to reap a great harvest. You can’t take shortcuts in the Christian life and expect God to bless you. You must sow time in Bible reading each morning and evening to know His word so you can be prepared for life‘s hurdles, so that you can be encouraged, and so you can be rock solid in your faith.
You must sow time in prayer in order to know Christ more fully so that you can know what He wants you to do, so you can be in His presence and be filled with His love and strength.
You must sow time in faithful church attendance so that you can encourage others, fellowship with others and be encouraged and strengthened yourself.
You must sow time in the lives of others in order to tell others about Him so that they might know Him also and escape the penalty for their sins and have His abundant life.
It’s all about Jesus Christ. Don’t be cheap with the seed. Sow Him bountifully in your life for your family’s sake, for your friend’s sake, for your church’s sake, for the world’s sake and for yourself.
