Martin Middle School outslugs Elkhorn on ‘eighth grade night’

INEZ — Martin County Middle School softball got a 29-24 win over Elkhorn City on “eighth grade night” April 29.

The coaching staff recognized eighth graders Mia Fields, Bella Robinson, Kaitlyn Mann, Chloe H. Jude, Chloe M. Jude and Kambria Fluty before the game.

The Cougars struck first, scoring 11 runs in the first inning.

Martin County answered with 12 runs of their own to the lead in the bottom of the first 12-11.

The Lady Cards added two runs in the second inning and seven in the third to go up 21-11.

Elkhorn City picked up five runs in the third and one in the fourth to close the gap to 21-17.

The visitor added seven runs in the top of the fifth to go ahead of Martin County 24-21.

The Lady Cards pushed eight runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth for the win.

Robinson toed the mound for the Lady Card. The pitcher gave up 24 runs on 11 hits while walking 17 batters.

The Lady Cards tallied 26 hits. Chloe M. Jude went 4-for-6, Robinson went 4-for-5 with a triple and a double, Fields, Aaliyah Moore, Fluty, and Shannon Marcum all went 3-for-5, Mann went 2-for-5, Chloe H. Jude went 2-for-6.
