Cameron to face off with Beshear

INEZ — Republican Daniel Cameron got the nod in Tuesday’s Primary Election to face off with Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear in November.

The Associated Press called the race early Tuesday as initial tallies put Cameron over 20 percentage points ahead of his closest opponent. 

Democratic incumbent Beshear defeated two challengers, posting around 95% of the vote.

Martin County results

In Martin County, voters gave the nod to Cameron as he garnered 278 Republican votes, while Kelly Craft got 239 votes. Republicans also gave Ryan Quarles 61 votes, Eric Deters 56, Mike Harmon 20, Alan Keck 17, Bob Devore 3, Robbie C. Smith 3, Johnny Ray Rice 2, David O. Cooper 2, Dennis Ray Ormond 1 and Jacob Clark 1.

Beshear received 71 Democratic votes in Martin County, while Geoffrey Young got two votes and Peppy Martin one.

In the Secretary of State race, Republican Michael Adams won Martin County with 401 votes. Stephen L. Knipper finished second with 149 votes and Allen Maricle third with 73.

Republican Allison Ball won Martin County’s vote for Auditor of Public Accounts with 488 votes to Derek Petteys’s 154.

Martin County gave Republican Mark H. Metcalf 394 votes for State Treasurer. Andrew Cooperrider was the second choice with 127 votes and O.C. “OJ” Oleka was third with 109 votes.

In the Commissioner of Agriculture race, Martin County gave Republican Richard Heath 324 votes and Jonathan Shell 298 votes; Democrats gave Sierra J. Enlow 36 and Mikael Malone 32.
