INEZ — Martin County fell to Mingo Central 9-6 and 16-7 in a doubleheader Saturday at home.
Below is a recap of both games.
Game 1
The Martin County defense held Mingo Central scoreless in the first three innings.
Zoie Hinkle was on the mound for the Lady Cards and recorded three strikeouts in the first three innings.
The Lady Cards got on the board first with one run in the first inning and one in the second to go up 2-0.
Mingo Central fought back to go up 3-2 in the top of the fourth.
The Lady Cards regained the lead on their next at-bat, scoring two runs to make it 4-3. They added two in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 6-3.
Mingo Central rallied in the sixth inning to score four runs and retake the lead 7-6. The Lady Miners picked up two more runs in the seventh.
Martin County scored six runs on 11 hits vs. Mingo Central’s nine runs on 10 hits.
Savannah Young, Hinkle, Hannah Stacy and Sophie Harless each had two singles, while Kaylee Endicott and Zoey Mollett added a single each and Brynnalyn Smith recorded a double.
Sophie Harless scored two runs and had one RBI. Young, Endicott, Duncan and Mollett each scored one run. Stacy and Hinkle each drove in two runs.
Hinkle took the loss on the mound for the Lady Cards.
Plummer got the win in the circle for Mingo Central.
Game 2
Mingo Central pulled out a 16-7 win over Martin County in game 2.
Senior Savannah Young started on the mound for the Lady Cards, while Zoie Hinkle came in for relief.
Mingo Central scored 11 runs in four innings to take a convincing 11-1 lead.
The Lady Cards rallied in the fifth to score six runs and cut the lead to 11-7.
Mingo Central shut the door with five more runs in the seventh to set the final score.
Martin County scored seven runs on 18 hits. Kaylee Endicott and Addison Duncan each went 4-for-4. Duncan recorded three singles and one double and Endicott had four singles. Savannah Young and Hannah Stacy each smacked a double and single, Sophie Harless and Bella Muncy added two hits apiece, and Bailey Dials and Brynnalyn Smith each had a single.
The Lady Cards moved to 3-5 on the season and Mingo Central moved to 7-8.
