Mavis Ellen Marcum

1949—2023

Mavis Ellen Marcum (Block), 73, of Stonecoal Creek Road, Kermit, W.Va., passed away March 21, 2023 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Born June 11, 1949, she was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Block

Mavis enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and found pleasure even in life’s simplest things. She followed Christ, loved being outdoors and proudly supported her grandchildren. She was a CNA in Wayne, W.Va., until she retired. She will be loved, remembered and missed by her friends, family and neighbors.

She is survived by her son, Travis Ray Marcum and his wife, Linda Gail Marcum (Louisa, Ky.); grandson, Michael Shawn Marcum, Esquire (Arlington, Va.); granddaughter, Dr. Shannon Danielle Marcum and her husband, Josh Bryant (Nicholasville, Ky.); sister, Myrna Kay Block-Smith (Mesa, Ariz.); sister, Marilyn Joy Block (Mesa, Ariz.); brother, Marvin Allen Block (Crum, W.Va.); niece Teryl Smith Kilanowski (Chandler, Ariz.); nephew Darren Smith (Mesa, Ariz.); and niece Belinda Block Perry (Columbus, Ohio).

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donny Ray Marcum; brother, Marion Block; niece, Sherry Block; and nephews, Brian Block and Devin Block.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Mullins Family Funeral Home in Warfield, Ky., with Rev. Ken Allen officiating. She was laid to rest at the Damron Cemetery on Stonecoal Creek Road.
