Martin County tennis knocks off Knott County

HINDMAN, Ky. — Martin County boys tennis team won 6 of 5 sets to defeat Knott County, while the girls team won 4 of 8 to end their match in a draw March 20 in Hindman.

The Cardinals moved to 2-0 on the season and the Lady Cards to 0-1-1.

In boys singles play seventh grader Jeremy Music won his sets 6-3 and 6-2. Bryon Marcum won one set 4-2 and lost one 0-6. Liam May won his first set 6-2 and lost the second set 0-4. Brayden Cook, Corey Jarrell and Levi Howell lost their sets 0-6.

In doubles play the Cardinals won both sets. Howell and Jarrell won 6-1 and Bryon Marcum and Brayden Cook won 6-0. The Cardinals won the overall match 6-5.

The Martin County Lady Cardinals match ended in a draw with each team winning four sets.

In singles set play, Hailey Dameron won 6-4, Katie Maynard won 6-2, and Emma Gullet won one set 4-0 and lost the second set 0-6. Tori Crum and Aaliyah Cline lost their sets 0-6.

In doubles play the Lady Cards split a pair. Candace Spaulding and Aaliyah Cline won their set 6-2, while Tori Crum and Hailey Damron lost 0-6.
