INEZ — The 120-member Martin County-Pike Central Pep Band and the Martin County High School pep section are the Mountain Citizen Players of the Week.

The story of how the pep band came together made news nationwide. The band comprised Martin County High School, Martin County Middle School and Pike County Central High School bands and showed up to play for the Cardinals in the KHSAA Sweet 16. This group of musicians brought high energy, enthusiasm and stunning sound to the Cardinal stands as one of the tournament’s biggest bands.

Alongside the band was the Martin County High School pep section led by students who have supported the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals all season. Their creative themes and school spirit at the Sweet 16 and all season long put them in an exceptional category.
