INEZ — The Martin County Cardinals basketball team and Cheerleaders are the Mountain Citizen Players of the Week.

The Cardinals have had a magical season.

Under the direction of 15th Region Coach of the Year Jason James, the Cardinals defeated Pikeville to claim their second 15th Region championship in four years. They also finished the season with a 28-10 record, the 57th District championship and the 15th Region All “A” championship.

The Cardinals will play Frederick Douglass at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.

Martin County Cheerleaders, under the direction of coaches Nikki Moore and Jackie Maynard, have cheered their hearts out and supported the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals all season long.
