Martin County names Wheeler new head volleyball coach

MCHS head volleyball coach Krista Wheeler

INEZ — Martin County High School announced Jan. 31 the appointment of Krista Wheeler as the new head volleyball coach.

“We are very excited to have Krista as a member of our Cardinal family,” MCHS principal Martha Williams said. “She has an impressive resume both as a player and coach. Under her leadership, we look forward to watching our volleyball program and players advance to new levels.”

Wheeler has been involved with volleyball in some way since she was 8 years old. She played for Sheldon Clark High School, where she graduated in 2016, and for Mountain Thunder in West Virginia. She has also coached AAU volleyball and was an assistant coach at Crum Middle School.

“I look forward to building a program of young ladies that represent the best of Martin County through leadership, character, hard work and talent,” Wheeler remarked.

Alice Lloyd College head volleyball coach Kayla Moore-Vanhoose, who coached Wheeler at SCHS, lauded her appointment.

“I am a Cardinal volleyball alumna as both player and coach,” Moore-Vanhoose said. “It’s hard to explain how proud I am that one of my former players is taking over a program that is so dear to me. Krista was an incredible player with amazing leadership qualities. I look forward to seeing what she can do to grow volleyball for all of Martin County.”

Wheeler resides in Warfield and teaches music at Crum PK-8.
