The Martin County Lady Cardinals JV team split a pair of games last week. They defeated Chapmanville 28-14 on Jan. 30 and fell to Magoffin County 23-11 in a game Feb. 1.

Lady Cards 28, Chapmanville 14
INEZ — The Martin County Lady Cardinals JV team jumped out to a 10-6 first-quarter lead over Chapmanville and never looked back, winning 28-14 in a game Jan. 30 in Inez.
Candace Spaulding led four Lady Cardinals who got in the books in the first quarter with four points.
Chloe May knocked down a trey and Spaulding added four more points to lead the Lady Cards to an 8-3 second quarter. The Lady Cards were up at the half 18-9.
Martin County went cold in the third quarter, held scoreless for the first six minutes of play. Chapmanville scored three points to win the frame 3-0. The Cards were up 18-12 going into the fourth.
Tamara Workman got the Lady Cardinals going in the fourth quarter with four points. Martin County outscored Chapmanville 10-2 in the final quarter.
Spaulding led Martin County with 10 points, Workman tallied six, May added five points, Bella Muncy dropped in four, Sophie Harless finished with two and Haley Mills chipped in one.
Brooke Christian led Chapmanville with four points, Blair added three, Parson, Lucas and Atwood each scored two and Parks netted one.
Lady Cards JV stung by Magoffin
SALYERSVILLE — The Lady Cardinals were stung 23-11 by the Magoffin County Hornets in a road game Feb. 1.
Both teams got out to a slow start offensively. Bella Muncy put the Lady Cards on the board, scoring their only four points of the first quarter. The Lady Cards held Magoffin to just two points to lead 4-2 after one.
The Hornets picked up their pace in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Cards 7-3 and to take a 9-7 lead at the half.
The teams struggled offensively, but Magoffin won the third quarter 4-2 to go up 13-9.
Magoffin County heated up in the fourth and outscored the Lady Cardinals 10-2 to widen the gap for the win.
The Lady Cardinals had two players in the scoring column. Bella Muncy led with six points and Candace Spaulding added five.
Sluss led Magoffin with eight points, Salyers netted five, Trusty chipped in four, and Williams and Reed each added three.
