BELFRY — A Michigan man was taken into custody Feb. 1 at a residence near Belfry in Pike County after members of the elite Kentucky State Police Enforcement Special Investigations East unit were alerted to a package containing drugs being delivered to the location.

According to information provided by Pikeville Post 9 of the KSP, the special unity obtained a search warrant for a FedEx package en route to the undisclosed address. Inside the package, they discovered approximately a pound of methamphetamine and a large quantity of fentanyl.

After taking possession of the package, troopers went to the address where it was scheduled to be delivered and made contact with Marques Yeldell, 24, of Detroit, Mich.

Yeldell was said to have been sitting outside the residence in an SUV and claimed “he was there to pick up a female” but refused to answer any other questions.

Nearby neighbors spoke to the troopers and relayed that the male had been sitting outside the house in his vehicle for three days and, when asked, said he was “waiting on someone to bring him something.”

While checking Yeldell’s license, the troopers were informed he was wanted on drug-related warrants in Michigan.

Yeldell was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Pike County Detention Center. He is facing charges of trafficking in meth and fentanyl and fugitive from justice.
