Harold Lloyd Sturgell

1954—2023

Harold Lloyd Sturgell, 68, of Ft. Gay, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 20, 2023 surrounded by his family at home.

Born Oct. 20, 1954 in Mingo County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Okey and Louise Salmons Sturgell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters Phoebe Copley, Betty Jo Smith, Virginia Helms, Roberta Maynard and Alberta Maynard and brothers Okey Lee Sturgell, Joe Sturgell, Albert Sturgell, Gary David Sturgell and James Sturgill.

He was a coal miner and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Turkey Creek Church in Wilsondale, W.Va.

Harold is survived by his wife of 40-plus years, Bertha Mae Sturgell; son, Harold David Sturgell (Tara Sturgell) of Wayne, W.Va.; daughter, Rachel Dorene Moore (Benny B. Moore II) of Wayne, W.Va.; grandchildren, Hailey Dawn Sturgell, Logan Moore, Landon Moore, Macey Moore of Wayne, W.Va., and Maddie Sturgell of Georgetown. His brothers also survive him: Sherman Sturgell of Delbarton, W.Va., Jennings (Ollie) Sturgell of Ft. Gay, W.Va., Charles Sturgell of Crum, W.Va., and Ivan (Sharon) Sturgell of Mansfield, Ohio.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023 at Mullins Family Funeral Home in Warfield, with Ken Allen and Mack Ray Cyrus officiating. Burial was at the McClellan-Crum Cemetery in Dunlow, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
